IPhone and IPad setup for Mail Lite, Mail Extra or 5GB Exchange Mailboxes

Setting up your mailbox on your IPhone or IPad should take just a few minutes.

This guide shows you how to connect to your mailbox using POP or IMAP. We have separate guides if you are using an 50GB or 100GB Exchange mailbox.

You can connect to your mailbox using either the POP3 or IMAP protocols. We generally advise that you use IMAP, especially if the mailbox is accessed by more than one person or if the mailbox is accessed on multiple devices.

If you connect using POP3 then emails are downloaded to the single device and deleted from the server. This may be preferable for privacy but this limits accessibility and leaves you with only a single copy of all mail unless you perform backups.

Step 1

Tap the Settings icon.

Step 2

Scroll down and press Mail.

Step 3

Press Accounts.

Step 4

Press Add Account.

Step 5

Press Other.

Step 6

Press Add Mail Account.

Step 7

Enter the following information and press Next:

Name: Enter your name. People will see this when you send them an email from your device.

Email: Enter the full email address you are setting up. For example ralph@ralphsdomainname.com.

Password: Enter your mailbox password.

Description: Enter an optional description to help you identify this mailbox.

Step 8

You should now be able to enter your various email server settings.

If you are setting up a Fasthosts Mailbox, we will include the specific settings below - for other mailboxes you will need to contact your provider or refer to their documentation for specifics such as their incoming and outgoing mailserver's.

When using a mobile device, we recommend using IMAP. This will give you greater flexibility sharing information between your various devices.

Incoming mail server

The first fields are for the INCOMING MAIL SERVER settings. These settings control your ability to receive email on your device.

  • In Host Name enter your incoming mail server. For Fasthosts mailboxes this is mail.livemail.co.uk.
  • Enter the email address, e.g. ralph@ralphsdomainname.com, for the Username.
  • Enter the Password, this will be the same you entered earlier.

You shouldn't need to enter any port information as iOS normally handles this for you, but if you need them for troubleshooting you should use 993 for an IMAP account or 995 for a POP account.

993 and 995 are standard ports for encrypted mail but you may need to use other ports if you are setting up a Non-Fasthosts Mailbox.

Outgoing mail server

Lets now enter the OUTGOING MAIL SERVER settings.  These settings control your ability to send email from your device.

  • In Host Name enter your outgoing mail server (smtp server). For Fasthosts mailboxes this is smtp.livemail.co.uk.
  • Enter the email address, e.g. ralph@ralphsdomainname.com, for the Username.
  • Enter the Password.

You shouldn't need to enter any port information as iOS normally handles this for you, but if you need to know for troubleshooting then you should use port 465

465 is the standard port for encrypted mail but you may need to use other ports if you are setting up a Non-Fasthosts Mailbox.

and finally...

Press Next

Your device will then Verify the settings.  This can take a couple of minutes.

Once everything has been verified, press the Save button to save your new account.
